Title: Daoming Wang Has Been Awarded NWO-Veni Grant for Study on Cardiometabolic and Kidney Comorbidity (280K Euro)

Daoming Wang, a member of CVON IN Control II consortium, has been awarded the prestigious Veni Grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), to support his study on the role of gut microbiota in cardiometabolic-kidney comorbidity (link).

Cardiometabolic disease (CMD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) often occur simultaneously, making treatment more difficult and increasing deaths. Gut microbes are associated with both cardiometabolic and kidney health, but the causal bacterial genes and molecular pathways underlying CMD and CKD remain unclear. This Veni project delves into the DNA code of gut bacteria, to identify bacterial genes that regulate both cardiometabolic and kidney health, and to characterize new molecular pathways that connect CMD and CKD.

About the Veni grants

NWO has awarded Veni funding of up to 280,000 euros to 188 promising researchers from the full breadth of science. The Veni is a personal scientific grant for researchers who have recently obtained their PhDs.
